Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Diesel (and his litter brother Dembe) are being surrendered due to a medical condition of one of their owners. Diesel is a 15-month-old, PB Silver Lab. He is UTD on rabies and all shots with the exception of Bordetella. He is crate trained and is still crated at bed time; he will come with his crate. He is not neutered and will need to be adopted with a sterilization agreement. He is good with children and lives with a 13-year-old, he also has been around toddlers who were used to big dogs but there could be a knock down factor with small children. He is good around other dogs and unknown around cats but does chase squirrels on his property. Diesel grew up having 20 acres and a creek to play in and has not been walked much on a leash. He knows his boundaries and enjoys free run of the property while out with the owners. He loves chasing his “Chick It” ball. He also has a fenced-in area adjacent to the house to be in when unattended by the owners. Diesel would need a fenced yard or large yard to play in. Diesel has never been without his brother but the owner feels he could be adopted separately or with a family with a resident dog. He can be shy initially when meeting new dogs or humans but warms up quickly. Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial.
