Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300. Meet Axel! Axel is about 3 years old and weighs 36lbs. A DNA test was sent off on him, but we are awaiting the results. Axel came into Ruff Love extremely scared and shut down. It took a while in his foster home for him to come around. He also seems to trust men much faster than he trusts women. Axel's foster parents worked with him and he has come a long way. He can still be nervous at first and will need someone who is experienced with herding dogs/herding dog behavior. He also needs to be in a child free home. He is very affectionate once he trust you and wants to be with his person at all times. He needs an experienced handler that understands herding breeds, will make him earn everything, and be consistent with training throughout his life to help him be the best boy he can be! Axel is completely vetted, house trained, and great with dogs and cats! Adoption donation- $300

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
