Born around September 2017, he has a creamy white and beige/apricot coat and soulful eyes. He will answer to almost any name if cheese is involved! The Riley Vibe: The Indoor Gentleman: Once inside, Riley is the definition of "chill." He’ll follow you from room to room just to stay close, though he values his personal space and prefers resting near you rather than on top of you. The Outdoor Goofball: Don’t let his sedentary nature fool you! He has hilarious bursts of energy in the yard and can be found smiling ear-to-ear while rolling in the grass. Gentle & Independent: True to his Pyr roots, he’s independent and an "old soul." He isn't possessive of toys or food and has shown zero interest in digging. He has never once counter surfed! You can place a tray of grilled meat at eye level and he simply looks at it longingly. Training & Manners: House Rules: Riley is fully house-trained and a dream in the car. He knows "sit" and respects boundaries regarding furniture (though he does love a good bed if/when allowed!). The Leash: He’s a strong boy, but he is confident enough to let you lead the way, so he is great and does not pull on the leash. Social Butterfly: He’s friendly with all humans and ignores cats. He doesn't have a lot of interest in other dogs either - but is fine with them. Entertainer: Riley loves to howl, but only if you do it first. He will point his face to the sky and "sing" with you as soon as you start. It is so dang cute! Communication & Quirks: The "Good Boy" Method: Unlike many Pyrs, Riley isn’t a huge barker. When he alerts you that someone is at the door, he just wants to know he's done his job. If you thank him for doing a good job and give him a pat, he happily settles back down. Sensitivities: He isn't a fan of "angry sky noises" (thunder) and will seek out a closet for safety. He also prefers a bug-zapper-free patio and is still learning to be brave about nail trims. The Pyr Paw: Riley enjoys plenty of affection. If he’s ready for a hug, he’ll let you know with his signature "Pyr paw" tap. Ideal Home: Riley would thrive with a couple or a family with children - as long as someone is home often. He doesn't get into the trash or have accidents when you are away, but definitely prefers company. Riley enjoys plenty of affection. He is the most gentle, sweet companion you could ever ask for - truly a gentleman with a golden heart! Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
