Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky. Lexie is an adorable girl in need of a forever home. Lexie spent the first two years of her life in a loving home, but after her owner suffered from strokes leaving them unable to care for her, she found herself in need of a new family. Lexie is a sweet dog who loves people and gets along with other dogs. She is a little shy at first but tries hard to please people. She is crate trained and house trained. She has not had much experience walking on a leash but with some proper encouragement we're expecting her to figure it out quickly. Lexie would love a home with a family able to spoil her the way she deserves! Lexie is up to date on her vaccines, current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, microchipped and spayed. If you think Lexie would be an amazing fit for your family, please e-mail us at arswarcticrescue for more information and to fill out an adoption application. Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
