Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Adoption Fee: 250. Meet Jersey! Jersey came to us on New Years severely emaciated nursing 7 puppies in the freezing cold. Thankfully a kind person found them and brought them to the shelter. All but one baby made it and sweet Jersey has since gained 12 lbs and is doing wonderful herself! She is now at a healthy weight of 27.6 lbs. Jersey gets along great with other dogs of all sizes. She lives with little dogs on up to a 120 lb dog with no issue. Jersey stays loose in her foster home during the day with minimal accidents. She is very easy going, barely barks and would be a great apartment dog. She also loves kids as well. She has not been cat tested. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm and flea prevention, heartworm negative and microchipped. She is scheduled to be spayed on 2/28 and would love to go into her forever home pending coming back for her spay on that date with our vet. Her adoption fee is $250. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
