Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky / German Shepherd Dog (long coat). Shiloh is a beautiful 2-year-old super mutt, a mix of German Shepherd, Husky, Pomeranian, Chihuahua, and more, weighing about 25 lbs. She is the perfect size for lap cuddles and easy adventures. She has the gentlest soul and truly just wants to be close to her people. Whether she is lounging nearby while you work, soaking up belly rubs, or following you from room to room, Shiloh is happiest when she feels included and loved. She has a calm, affectionate presence with just the right sprinkle of playful energy, making her a wonderful mix of snuggly and fun. Shiloh does great with other dogs and is also perfectly content being your one and only. She is good with kids and would thrive in a home where she is part of everyday life, ideally with some yard space to explore. She has made great progress with potty training, walks nicely on leash without pulling, and knows basic commands like sit, come, and “no.” She is very food motivated too, which makes continued training both easy and rewarding. Shiloh had a tough start after arriving at the Barstow shelter pregnant and with a broken leg. She gave birth on January 10 and proved to be an incredible mama, then underwent surgery on her leg just one week later. She has been healing beautifully and is expected to make a full recovery. Despite everything she has been through, Shiloh is full of love and joy, as if she has never had a hard day in her life. After all she has overcome, she is more than ready for a forever family who sees how special she truly is. If you are looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, Shiloh might just be your girl. Apply today! If you are interested in adopting, please visit the I.C.A.R.E. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
