Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $400. ADOPT Rusty our 8-pound Chihuahua mix might be small, but he’s packed with personality. Rusty is 1–2 years old and has shown nothing but love and enthusiasm despite a rough start. He’s house and crate trained, gets along great with other dogs, and loves being part of the action—or curled up close for some snuggle time. Rusty would be happiest in a home where he gets plenty of attention, whether that’s from a playful pup friend or someone who simply enjoys a good cuddle. He’ll be neutered before his adoption is finalized and will make a loyal, affectionate addition to any family. Overview:

The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
