Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). OTHER PETS: Olives was excited to meet other dogs and was definitely interested in playing. Her level of energy may be a bit much for some dogs, though, so she would likely do best with a social dog that can match her exuberance in play. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Olive is a dog that is rarely caught sitting still, and will do best with someone that has experience in managing dogs with a high energy level through enrichment and positive reinforcement. [Some Experience] KIDS: Olives has a lot of energy and can be jumpy in her excitement to greet new friends. She would do best in a home with older kids that are able to understand how to interact with her and when to let her have her own space. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Olives is a lot of dog with a lot of energy! In a home environment, she would do best with both routine walks and various forms of mental enrichment--such as games and puzzles--to keep her mind and body busy. Mental enrichment especially will help her to learn how to be calm and settle on her own, as well as introduce other ways to expend her energy. [Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Olives is beginning her positive reinforcement journey, and will do best learning with someone who can offer patience while she adjusts to a new home and environment. Positive reinforcement will help Olives not only learn her basic cues, skills, and some fun tricks, but will also help her bond with her new guardian. [Moderate] GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
