Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Scrappy is a 2-year-old male Shepherd mix who has already been neutered. He is an owner turn in because the owner can no longer take care of him. Scrappy has a gorgeous medium length brindle coat; and the coloring makes him look like a tiger. This handsome guy weighs 97 pounds so he is an extra large big boy! Scrappy in patient, friendly, and affectionate. He is leash trained; and according to his owner--"partially house trained". Scrappy would be fine in a home with older children. He is protective and dog selective--so if you have another dog a meet and greet with your dog is required before adoption. If you have been considering adopting a new big dog--come meet him. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
