Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Chompers is a 2-year-old male Pit Bull mix who must be neutered before adoption. He was brought in by county animal control after being found as a stray; and no owner claimed him. Chompers is brown with white markings; and he is handsome. He does have some irritation around his muzzle caused by pushing his nose against his kennel door. The staff is treating him for it; and the pink irritation will go away. Chompers weighs 57 pounds so he is a large dog. He is friendly and affectionate with our staff; and would be fine with older children. Chompers is dog selective so if you have another dog--a meet and greet with your dog will be required. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
