Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Pointer / Mixed. Hi, I'm Piper, and I am 7 years old. I'm a very sweet, friendly older girl looking for a new lease on life. I was adopted from the shelter in 2019 and was recently returned due to my owner going into a nursing home. Due to me not enjoying the company of other animals, family members could not take me in. However, they had wonderful things to say about me! I am housetrained and free reign wonderfully in the home when my owners are gone. I walk well on the leash and am used to a fenced in yard where I go to do my business! I can be a little reserved of new people at first, but I did well with the grandchildren that came over! The first time I came into the shelter in 2019, I was very pregnant and gave birth to a litter of beautiful puppies. I am a retired mama that is looking for a new couch to snuggle on!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Breed overview
Overview:
The Lab-Pointer, a charming crossbreed of the Labrador Retriever and Pointer, originated from the desire to combine the best qualities of both parent breeds. Physically, they are typically medium to large dogs, showcasing a athletic build, often with a short, dense coat in various colors like black, yellow, chocolate, or liver, and sometimes the distinctive Pointer markings. Their temperament is generally a delightful blend: intelligent, loyal, and eager to please like the Lab, combined with the Pointer's alert and energetic nature. This makes them highly trainable, though they do require consistent exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom. While affectionate and good with children, their energy levels mean they are best suited for active families with a yard, rather than small apartments. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health concerns inherited from either parent, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers, making responsible breeding and regular vet check-ups crucial for their well-being.
