Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Pennington County Humane Society Nesta's story begins in a neighborhood where she gave birth without the safety or warmth she desperately needed. Tragically, several of her puppies did not survive the freezing temperatures. A kind community member brought her to us so she and her remaining babies could finally be safe, warm, and cared for. Despite everything she has been through, Nesta is a devoted mother and a gentle, resilient soul. She is currently in a loving foster home where she can focus on raising her puppies in comfort and security. Nesta will need to finish caring for her babies before she is ready for adoption, but we are accepting early interest. If you feel a connection to this brave girl and would like to be considered once she's ready, please contact us at 218‑681‑8045. For now, she's soaking up warmth, good food, and kindness—everything she deserved from the start. Pennington County Humane Society

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
