Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). This gorgeous chocolate lab goes by the name Addie. Addie came to our shelter in February and has been making friends with staff and volunteers ever since! Addie is playful and energetic, she will make a great walking buddy- even though she's 7! Don't let her age fool you, she has a youthful look as well as personality. She still gets into silly shenanagins around the house and will need a refresher in her basic manners. Addie loves her food and toys and does not want to share, so she will need extra management in the home aorund resoruces depending on other animals and people she interacts with. Addie's successfully lived with a cat in her previous home, and could live with a dog as long as there is a plan in place to avoid any scuffles around their food or speical items! Addie's never lived with children, but we think she could do well with kids that can understand her boundaries!

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
