Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Maui — The Sweet, Goofy Companion You’ve Been Waiting For! Maui is a sweet, 60lb wiggly, people-loving boy who warms up quickly and becomes an affectionate, goofy companion. At 4 years old, he’s a great mix of playful energy and the ability to settle nicely once he’s had some interaction. He’s easy to leash, walks well with guidance, and does great in his kennel with minimal vocalizing. Maui enjoys meeting new people and responds well to redirection. He loves playing with other dogs and is happiest when he has a buddy to romp with. He’s still learning some doggy manners and can come on a bit strong at first, but there’s zero aggression—just enthusiasm. If another dog barks to tell him he’s being too much, Maui simply gives a goofy “okay!” and wanders off to find a new playmate. Because he does show some prey drive, Maui would do best with medium or larger dog friends and no cats or small animals. Maui is a truly special dog—loving, joyful, and eager to bond deeply with his people. He’s the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddle-buddy sweetness. With just a bit of structure and continued training, Maui will shine as a loyal, fun, and devoted companion. If you’re looking for a dog who will adore you, make you laugh, and be by your side through it all, Maui is ready to meet you. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
