Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Maui — The Sweet, Goofy Companion You’ve Been Waiting For! Maui is a 4-year-old Bully Mix (70+ lbs) with a contagious smile, a soft heart, and a deep love for being as close to his people as possible. He’s a cuddly Velcro pup who thrives with structure, clear boundaries, and positive reinforcement. Maui is crate trained, house trained with a routine, and walks beautifully on a gentle leader. He’s playful and goofy—he loves tug-of-war, running outside, and then snuggling in for a long nap. Maui enjoys other dogs and plays sweetly, but he does have a tendency to be possessive of space, so he needs a family willing to guide and train him through those situations. He loves kids and is incredibly gentle at heart, though his excitement can accidentally knock over small children. Maui has mild skin sensitivities (needs anti-itch shampoo), ears that require regular cleaning, and is currently being weaned off trazodone. He’s looking for a patient, loving, consistent family who will give him guidance and a cozy place to land. If you want a loyal, affectionate companion who will follow you anywhere—and make you laugh with his mirror-barking antics—Maui is your guy. ❤️ Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
