KALI NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Kali Best Guess for Breed: Terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 1 yr as of April 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 36 lbs as of 2/15/26; might have a bit more to grow Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Meet Kali – a young, joyful, high-energy pup who’s ready to find her true forever home Kali is a 1-yr-old mixed breed with a big heart and even bigger zest for life. She originally came into care when someone stepped in to keep her safe, and now she’s ready for the stable, loving home she truly deserves. If you’re looking for a fun, active companion—Kali is your girl. She is FULL of happy energy and absolutely loves to run, play, and chase a ball. A few rounds of fetch? Yes, please. A long walk or even a run? Even better. She currently enjoys multiple walks a day plus play sessions—and recently started doggy daycare, where she’s thriving and having a blast with other dogs. She would do best with an adopter who can continue giving her plenty of outlets for that joyful energy. Kali is also incredibly social and affectionate: Loves people and has shown no human aggression—just lots of enthusiasm (she may greet you with some excited jumps!) Dog-friendly when introduced thoughtfully, and she enjoys playful interactions—even with larger dogs Daycare star who clearly enjoys being around other dogs in a structured environment She’s a smart and trainable pup who is already picking things up quickly: Leash skills are improving and she responds well to treats and guidance Crate trained and sleeps overnight in her crate (she prefers a sturdy one and does best with structure) Separation anxiety has improved significantly with routine and consistency Kali does have a few typical young-dog quirks: She’s a strong chewer, especially in her crate, so durable toys are a must She can be a bit jumpy when excited, so continued training will help her channel that energy appropriately She has shown some resource guarding in specific situations, which is manageable with structure (like separating dogs during meals or high-value treats) Kali’s ideal home is one that understands her energy and is excited about it—not intimidated by it. She would thrive with: An active adopter or family who enjoys walks, runs, or outdoor adventures Someone committed to continued training and structure to help her grow into her best self A home that can give her both physical exercise and mental stimulation At her core, Kali is a happy, loving, playful dog who just needs the right outlet and guidance. With consistency, patience, and plenty of playtime, she’s going to be an incredibly loyal and fun companion. If you’re ready for a dog who will keep you moving, make you laugh, and love you wholeheartedly—Kali is ready to meet you. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
