Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. PWRESCUE.ORG *PHOENIX METRO AREA ONLY* Meet Cookie, a sweet 5-year-old, 9-pound Chihuahua with a heart as big as her adorable ears. Cookie came to rescue after her owner was no longer able to care for her, and now she’s ready to find a loving forever home of her own. This happy little girl absolutely loves lap time and cuddles. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who wants to be close to her person, Cookie is your girl. She enjoys leisurely walks, snuggling up in bed with her foster mom, and soaking up all the love she can get. While she much prefers sleeping beside her person (and really, who can blame her?), she will settle nicely in her crate when needed. Cookie can be a little timid when meeting new people and may bark at strangers at first. She’s still learning that the world is a safe and happy place. With a little patience and reassurance, her sweet, affectionate personality truly shines through. She also loves being outside, soaking up the sunshine and fresh air, so a home with a secure fenced yard where she can safely enjoy her outdoor time is a must. She does okay with children; however, we would prefer kids to be at least 12 years old and gentle in nature. Cookie can have a bit of an attitude with other dogs, so she would likely do best as the only dog in the home where she can soak up all the attention. Cats are unknown, but she would most likely prefer a cat-free home. And let’s not forget—she’s a big fan of her Dr. Becker’s Bites treats! If you’re looking for a loyal, cuddly companion who will happily warm both your lap and your heart, Cookie may be the perfect match for you. Cookie is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
