Riley – Yellow Male, 5 years, 100 lbs. Your Next “Better Than Me” Kind of Love If you’ve been “Looking for Love” in all the wrong places, let us introduce you to Riley — a yellow hunk with a heart as big as the open country and a tail that never stops wagging. He’ll have you thinking, “You Look Like You Love Me,” at first sight. Riley’s story has a little country soul to it. He came from the shelter with a dislocated elbow, sores and wounds all over his body, including some “unmentionable places”, as well as elevated white cells & liver enzymes. Once he arrived in foster care and was able to be treated for all of those old wounds, it was determined he also needed to have FHO surgery due to what was likely an old hip fracture. Riley is now on the mend from all of that and while life hasn’t always been steady, he hasn’t let that dull his sweetness. He is ready to put his “Old Stray Dog” days way behind him and find a forever family of his own so that some day down the road his story will start with “There was this girl” or maybe even a “There was this Family”! At about 5 years old and a solid 100 pounds, Riley is the perfect mix of maturity and playful spirit. He’s past the wild puppy stage but still has plenty of pep in his step! This sweet boy has a personality that’s equal parts playful and gentle. He loves his people and gets along with his doggy friends; there are no cats in the foster home. He’s got that classic Labrador charm — smart, affectionate, and always ready for the next adventure. When it comes to love, Riley doesn’t hold back. His new motto is “I Want You in the Worst Way.” He wants his person. His couch. His yard. His happily-ever-after. He’s the kind of dog who leans into you, looks up with those soft eyes, and seems to say, “I Just Need You” and he’ll be right there with you through the “Good Days” and the messy ones too. Whether you’re headed out on a long walk, a car ride, a camping trip, or just sitting on the porch soaking in the quiet, he’ll be your steady shadow. He’s friendly, affectionate, and loves a good ear scratch or belly rub — in fact, “Don’t Mind If I Do.” He’s a big boy with a big heart, and he’ll happily fill your home with loyalty and love. Riley is ready to stop wandering and start belonging. If you’re looking for a steady companion who will greet you every day like you’re the best thing that ever happened to him, complete the on-line application and come meet Riley. He’s waiting for you, don’t leave him “Waitin All Day”! Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
