Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat). Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinySluckydoganimalrescue) for more information about this pet. small sweetie seeking fresh start and love! CHARLIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Charlie Best Guess for Breed: Shih Tzu mix Best Guess for Age: 6 months as of February 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 4 lbs as of 2/17/26 - he is still growing! Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Charlie is Looking For: His forever home! Charlie is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He's a young boy, barely out of puppyhood, and hasn't szeen nearly enough of the world yet. He is eager to get his fresh start with his own humans in the DC area - he's eager to explore his new area on sniffy walks and adventures! But you know what he wants most of all? To know he's safe and loved, where he belongs. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see him down there by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
