Dog Breed: Unknown breed. My husband and I are taking care of Terry on a temporary basis. He is a very sweet dog that likes attention, he follows me around from room to room. He knows some simple commands and is house trained. In the past he was kept in a crate during the night and day, but he does fine with being left out all the time. He has never caused any damage or made any messes. He goes to his bed when asked and lays quietly curled up. He loves to play tug of war and also likes to chase after tennis balls. He gets along great with our dog and enjoys running around our fenced yard. If he needs to go out he comes up to us and then goes to the door. My husband and I are in our 70's and I am scheduled for a knee replacement surgery in March, so we need to find him a forever home. I will try and get some better photos of him. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
