Description
Dog Breed: Bernese Mountain Dog / Poodle (Standard). Meet Oreo! Oreo is a bernedoodle looking for his loving forever home. Oreo’s original owners decided they didn’t want him anyone and gave him away to another family. Within a few hours, he was out on the street and was hit by a car! Neither the original nor the new owners wanted him after he got injured, so the old owners picked him up and brought him to different veterinary hospitals trying to euthanize him. Thankfully, one of the vets called Husky House, so he was able to survive. Oreo arrived to Husky House in terrible condition, terrified, matted, and caked in feces. He also suffered a broken pelvis, blunt force trauma to the heart, and a pneumothorax (holes in the lung) from the car accident. Thankfully, Oreo is recovering well from his injuries and his heart and lungs have fully healed ! However, he is still on crate rest while his pelvis finishes healing. Despite his history, Oreo is a gentle, friendly dog who loves spending time with volunteers. He hasn’t been tested with other dogs yet due to his injury, but he appears dog friendly. Overview:
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a striking and gentle breed originating from the Swiss Alps, where they were traditionally used as farm dogs for herding, guarding, and pulling carts. Physically, they are large, sturdy dogs with a distinctive tricolor coat of black, rust, and white, known for their expressive dark eyes and powerful build. Temperamentally, Berners are renowned for their calm, affectionate, and loyal nature, making them excellent companions. They are generally good with children and other pets, fitting well into active family life, though their size makes them less ideal for small apartment living without ample outdoor access. While their sweet disposition is a major draw, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a relatively shorter lifespan and predispositions to conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain cancers. Despite this, their unwavering devotion and majestic presence bring immense joy to their families.
