Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Jazzy is a beautiful 1-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix who's never met a person she didn't like. Sometimes, she is more interested in what you’re eating than what’s in her bowl, so she’ll occasionally wander away from her food just to see if something more exciting is happening! At 65 pounds, this sweet girl is eager to please and generally very obedient. After a short adjustment period in her foster home, she became the perfect blend of sweet couch potato and playful pup. She’s happiest lounging on the couch near her people but also enjoys chewing on bones and toys. She will alert bark if there are other dogs or sounds she's unfamiliar with, but she stop immediately when asked. She's not crate trained but completely trustworthy left alone in the house. Because Jazzy wasn’t exposed to much early in life, everything still feels new to her. Leash walking is a work in progress, and she feels safest in a yard while she builds confidence. Jazzy needs only moderate exercise — once she gains confidence on leash, she’ll make a wonderful walking companion. She may need a little extra patience as she learns. She likes other dogs and has previously lived with cats, though a proper introduction is recommended. She hasn't had much experience with kids while in our care. Jazzy is a sweet, gentle soul who will give you her whole heart. All she needs is patient, loving humans to help her continue growing into the amazing companion she’s meant to be! If you are interested in Jazzy, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $450. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
