Dog Breed: Terrier / Terrier / Mixed. Those expressive eyes and sweet face are only the beginning. Introducing Max, a male Terrier mix with a striking, short tan and white coat. Approximately 3 yrs and 8 months old, he currently is fully grown at about 50 pounds. Max is a medium energy boy who is very comfortable around other dogs. He can be very excited around small children, so Max would do best in a home with kids over the age of 5. His behavior around cats is unknown. Max is house trained and crate trained, and his leash training is in progress. Although Max is housetrained, accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Max is a sweet pooch who is very friendly but can be a little shy at first. Some guidance and patience will be needed to help him gain confidence, acclimate to his new surroundings and be the amazing, lifelong companion he is destined to become. Max is ready for a home where he can play, snooze, explore, romp and impress you. That home needs to be one where there is an ongoing commitment to training, socialization, providing exercise and affection. And while he is no gymnast, Max says he will bend over backwards to get into a great home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
