Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet George — a 12-week-old shepherd mix with oversized paws, floppy ears, and a heart twice his size. George is equal parts cuddle bug and curious explorer. With his bright eyes and constantly wagging tail, he’s always ready for the next adventure — whether that’s chasing leaves in the yard, learning a new trick, or proudly carrying around a toy that’s almost bigger than he is. Like many shepherd mixes, George is smart, alert, and already showing signs of being a quick learner. He’s working on his basic commands and loves praise (and treats). He’s playful with other dogs, gentle when he needs to be, and happiest when he’s near his people. When he’s not zooming around, you’ll find him curled up for a nap, dreaming about his next big day. George is growing fast, but one thing that won’t change is his sweet nature and loyal spirit. Big paws. Bigger personality. Biggest heart. We do not have a facility for you to visit. You are welcome to email ccrcdogsccrcdogs with specific questions, but please complete the online application, which can be found at .ccrcdogs, to secure your position in line for one of our dogs. You can also find a description of our process on that same page. Puppies will not be available to be seen until their 10-day quarantine has passed. Our adoption fees are listed on our website and cover the cost of the spay/neuter, age-appropriate shots and tests, medications to bring the dog to full health, and a free visit with one of our approved vets after adoption. Most dogs at CCRC are obtained from animal control centers so there is often very little known about their history or current habits. You can always expect to do some training, regardless of whether you adopt a dog or a puppy, including crate training, house training, and basic manners. CCRC has a variety of materials and resources to assist you with this, and we have trainers who will offer free phone/email support.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
