Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (short coat). Meet Knox! This stunning 3–4 month-old Belgian Malinois puppy is looking for a FOSTER-TO-ADOPT home. (He needs to complete his vaccines/neuter in our Rochester NY veterinary network before he can officially be adopted, but he’s ready to start bonding with his future family now!) What Knox Needs Knox is exactly what you’d expect from a young Malinois: •Extremely intelligent •High drive and high energy •No built-in “off switch” •Eager to learn He requires an experienced home, ideally with prior Malinois or strong working/shepherd breed experience. Training will be MANDATORY. Structure, consistency, exercise, and discipline are not optional - they’re essential for him to thrive. He is not a casual companion - he’s a lifestyle commitment. Dog Social Knox is great with the dogs in his current foster home - males and females, young and old. However, because of his energy level, any resident dogs must be: •Well socialized •Confident •Patient with a young, intense puppy Home Requirements Breed or working-dog experience required •No small children •No small animals •Committed to ongoing training He is crate trained and mostly potty trained — he just needs guidance and continued structure. Our goal is to place Knox in a home that understands what he needs to succeed and is ready to invest the time and effort to help him become an exceptional adult. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
