Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Meet Nyla, a resilient and affectionate 7-month-old hound mix weighing in at about 45 pounds. This sweet girl has overcome a challenging past, having been used as a bait dog for bear hunting. Although she arrived with wounds and covered in mange, Nyla has since healed beautifully and is ready to find her forever home. With a heart full of love, she adores all people, is fantastic with kids, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Nyla loves to play with other dogs and loves ALL toys. In her foster home, her best friend is an older cat, showcasing her gentle nature, though she might try to play with more active felines. Nyla is house-trained and does great in her crate when you leave. She always sleeps quietly in her crate all night. She’s even learned how to sit, which reflects her eagerness to please! She still needs a bit of practice waking on a leash, but she would love to accompany you on walks and adventures. If you're looking for a loving and playful addition to your family, Nyla is ready to bring joy and warmth into your life. Nyla is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is available for adoption now through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, Pa 15144 KL#16182

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
