Dog Breed: Terrier. Meet Khaki! You might recognize this sweet face! Khaki, formerly known as Star, was one of our six “Space Puppies” back in December. At just 6 months old, this mixed-breed cutie has found her way back to us through no fault of her own — she simply decided that cats were a little too fun to play with. Because of that, Khaki will need a cat-free home. Khaki is everything you’d expect from a classic puppy. She loves to be seen and heard, brings a fun, playful energy wherever she goes, and absolutely soaks up attention. She’s great with kids and does well with other dogs, making her a wonderful addition to an active, loving family. When she’s not busy playing, Khaki is more than happy to cuddle up and remind you just how sweet puppy love can be. She’s ready for a forever home that will continue to guide her as she grows and give her all the love she deserves. Khaki's adoption fee is $250, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
