Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Currently located at our Owensboro, KY location Meet Mirasol Mirasol is a beautiful 1-year-old Pit Bull mix weighing about 45 pounds, and this sweet girl has already been through more than her fair share. She was brought to us as a stray after being attacked by another dog and was covered in pepper spray because they couldn’t get them separated. Despite such a rough start, Mirasol is now fully vetted and physically healed. What she needs now is emotional healing — and that starts with getting her out of the kennel environment. Over the past few days, she’s been a little grumpy when being taken out of her kennel (and honestly, who can blame her?). But once she’s out, she goes right back to her happy, sweet self. She just needs space to breathe, decompress, and feel safe again. We truly don’t want to see this girl start to deteriorate from kennel stress. At 45 pounds, she’s the perfect medium size for both couch cuddles and outdoor adventures. She’s young, full of potential, and ready to bond deeply with someone willing to give her patience and love. We are still learning how she does with other dogs, cats, and kids. Right now, our biggest priority is finding her a foster or forever home where she can relax and thrive. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
