Being a black pittie mix and not a "baby, baby", Donovan sat in the shelter for 3 months. Unable to exercise, Donovan began to become overly frustrated. We had met and worked with Donovan on a trip to GA and knew he had tremendous amounts of potential... so... Donovan became a TLR dog. Donovan is living with our resident trainer, and spent a week at the esteemed Peaceable Paws basic manners training academy. He knows his cues well. Sit, down, targeting, he walks well on a leash. Donovan is toy and treat motivated. He is still working on his impulse control and will need a human dedicated to continuing his force free training. (His foster mom and our resident trainer will provide sessions at no charge!) Due to his exuberance Donovan will be best right now in an adult home, and likely as an only child. Please know that Donovan is EVERYTHING friendly, he just needs to continue to work on himself!! Donovan would love a friendly, high energy person to call his own. He would play, hike, run, whatever all day with his person. Or just hang out on the couch and watch TV!!!! He is still a young guy at just a year old, and hasn't had the opportunity to develop into the dog we know he can be. So, if you are looking for a special dog, who loves all things, and you don't mind squeaky toys... come meet Donovan!!!!

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
