Description
Dog Breed: Basset Hound. Adoption Fee: $400. If you’re looking for the sweetest companion you could imagine, Ulysses is your guy! This gorgeous hound was born to love and to be loved, and he takes his purpose seriously. He wants nothing more than to cuddle (preferably next to you on the couch, as much as possible), and is a perfect gentleman. He doesn’t bark, doesn’t drool, doesn’t jump on people, and doesn’t beg; he enjoys going on walks (just not too far, please), and is great on a leash, never pulling. He loves everyone he meets, has been great with children we’ve seen him with, and gets along well with other dogs (we’ve been told he’s also good with cats too). He’s in great health, though his back can be a little stiff, particularly when he first wakes up; a house with no stairs would be best for him. Ulysses is completely house trained and enjoys sleeping on his own dog bed nearby “his people” at night. It’s believed that he’s between 6-7 years old.

Overview:
The Basset Hound is a charming and distinctive breed, originating in France as a scent hound primarily used for hunting hare and rabbit. Easily recognized by their long, droopy ears, sad-looking eyes, and short, sturdy legs, they possess an incredibly powerful sense of smell. Despite their somewhat mournful expression, Bassets are known for their gentle, laid-back, and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful companions for families. They are generally good with children and other pets, though their stubborn streak and loud baying bark require consistent training. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient daily exercise, their tendency to follow their nose means a secure yard is essential. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns such as ear infections due to their long ears, back issues, and bloat. Overall, the Basset Hound is a loyal and loving, if sometimes comically determined, addition to many homes.
