Name: Val Best Guess for Breed: Terrier and shepherd mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of February 2023 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 60 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Val is Looking For: Her forever home! Val is in her prime as a young adult dog and eager to explore the world by her humans' side. Sniffy walks, all the adventures they can dream up - yes, please! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list as well. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to be safe. To love and be loved. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
