Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mastiff / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $200. Meet Knox, a stunning estimated 2-year-old Lab/Mastiff (best guess??) blend who is ready to find his forever home. Knox joined our care recently after being found as a stray in Marengo, and since he was never reclaimed, he is officially looking for a fresh start. This big fella is a real head-turner, boasting a gorgeous, dark brindle coat that is sleek and beautiful. While we are still getting to know his full personality as he adjusts to the shelter environment, one thing is already crystal clear: Knox is a strong, eager, and powerful companion with a whole lot of love to give. Knox is a high-energy guy who doesn’t quite know his own strength just yet, so he is looking for an active household that is physically prepared to handle a large breed dog. He will need a dedicated owner ready to tackle the "basics" with him—this includes manners, obedience training, and house training. Because Knox has shown reactivity toward other dogs, we are continuing to assess his social skills as he settles in, but for now, he’s looking for a leader who can give him the focused attention and training he needs to thrive. Despite his strength and zest for life, Knox does enjoy the attention of his human friends. If you have experience with large breeds and are looking for a loyal, striking partner for all of life’s adventures, Knox might just be the perfect match for you. If you're interested in meeting Knox, please complete an online adoption application found on our website at .wesavepets. Once the application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps of the meet & greet process.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Mastador is a compelling hybrid, blending the robust nature of the Mastiff with the amiable disposition of the Labrador Retriever. Originating from designer breed initiatives, this cross aims to combine the best traits of its powerful parents. Physically, Mastadors are large to giant-sized dogs, boasting a muscular build and a dense, often short coat, with colors varying widely depending on their lineage. Their temperament is typically a delightful mix of the Mastiff's gentle loyalty and the Lab's playful affection, making them surprisingly gentle giants. They are generally good with families, including children, but their size necessitates supervision and early socialization. Due to their substantial size and need for moderate exercise, apartment living is not ideal; a home with a yard is preferable. Prospective owners should be aware of potential health concerns common to large breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and certain heart conditions, necessitating regular veterinary check-ups and a high-quality diet.
