Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Luna is a perfectly petite 32-lb Australian Shepherd with the most gorgeous blue eyes and the softest, fluffiest coat. She has a gentle heart and a whole lot of wiggles, and the moment she meets you, her happy tail and joyful energy are impossible to resist. Luna loves pets, attention, and cuddlesâand sheâll happily take a treat or two as a bonus! During a recent foster stay, she was shy at first, but warmed up quickly and soon stuck to her fosters like their shadow. She met several new people and handled it beautifullyâcurious at first, then happily settling in for some quiet time. She had no potty accidents, slept through the night, and woke up adorably excited to greet her fosters. Luna enjoys other dogs and has done well in shelter playgroups, showing sheâs playful and social. On leash, she can get excited when she sees other dogs and may bark as she tries to greet them, but with a little continued training, sheâll learn to stay calm and focused during on-leash encounters. Like many herding breed dogs, Lunaâs instinct is to chase fast-moving things like cars or bikes, so she must always be kept securely leashed or in a fenced area. She would also do best in a home without small animals. Luna thrives on human connection and is ready for a loving home where she can continue to grow.

Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
