Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 2 Years 2 Months Weight: 68 lbs. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. This BEAUTIFUL black lab mix is Clementine. She is said to be gentle, smart, well-behaved & ready for her furever family. Clementine has gotten along with the human and the five dogs she's been staying with during her short time in her foster home and has settled right in. She enjoys bitey mouth play, wrestling and chasing her dog friends then is happy to chill for a while and cuddle with her human. She is working on her housetraining and skills and may greet you with a jump of joy. She is crate trained and will keep her crate clean. Clementine rides well in a car and enjoys meeting new people. She is described as interested and calm in new places. Clementine does get excited when she meets children. Since she is on the larger side she may do better in a home with older kids. We don't know a ton about Clementine's back story but unfortunately, Clementine was attacked by 2 dogs & is healing from stitches in her leg. She also had a bite on her shoulder which did not require stitches. Despite that, she has not shown any concerns around other dogs so far. She has been living with other pups and has been doing well. Beautiful Clementine is not expected to have any lasting medical concerns, though there may be some small scars from her wounds. This sweet girl will be a great companion for her lucky new family. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
