Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT NEEDED FOR BUDDY Buddy is currently in our care, and we are so incredibly grateful we were able to step in for him. He was once described as a “gentle giant,” adopted out, and later surrendered with claims that he was aggressive toward people and dogs. Those claims landed him on the euthanasia list. We brought him back into care, assessed him to see who he really is. And here’s the truth… He is not aggressive. He is sweet. He is goofy. He is misunderstood. Here’s what we’ve learned about Buddy so far: Very independent at first — listening wasn’t high on his priority list But with structure, he’s responding beautifully. Pulled on leash initially — with the right tools and guidance, he now walks great. He likes people! (Kid test coming soon.) He likes dogs but lacks social skills. With leadership and structure, this is very workable. Gets overexcited seeing dogs on walks — without guidance it could look “aggressive,” but with direction he does very well. Probably best in a home without cats. Could live with another dog with proper structure, pack walks, and monitored introductions. We will absolutely help guide that process. Around 5 years old — loves walks, just not ultra-marathons Treat motivated and eager to bond. Buddy doesn’t need perfection. He needs leadership. He needs structure. He needs someone willing to see him for who he is instead of who someone once said he was. We are looking for: A foster home Or a foster-to-adopt placement We will support you. We will help with training. We will set you up for success. Buddy has already been failed once. Let’s not let that happen again. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
