Adoption APPLICATION: Muttsinneed/adoption-application ** Application must be completed prior to a meet & greet. Our Adoption Process:Muttsinneed/adoption-process Meet Guinness! Guinness’s world was turned upside down when he was brought to the shelter after his owner was evicted from their home in Long Beach. He came in with one other dog and three cats—his entire little family—and after being separated, he’s been trying to adjust to a life that feels very unfamiliar. Despite all the change, Guinness has remained incredibly sweet and gentle. He has an easygoing, affectionate nature and truly loves being around people. That said, he clearly misses the companionship of his former furry housemates and would thrive in a home with another dog or even a cat to help him feel safe and settled again. At 4 years old and 30 lbs, Guinness is the perfect size and age—past the puppy chaos but still full of love to give. He’s simply looking for a patient, kind family to help him feel at home again and show him that his story still has a happy chapter ahead. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a loyal, loving companion, Guinness is ready to meet you. Apply to adopt Guinness here: .muttsinneed/adoption-application.html

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
