Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Callie is a 1 year 1 month old female mixed breed with a sleek black and tan short coat and a bright, happy personality. Weighing 36 pounds, she is the perfect medium size for adventures and snuggles alike. Callie was original brought to the shelter as a stray, but she has not let that slow her down one bit. She is incredibly sweet, playful, and eager to be part of the action. Callie walks nicely on a leash and loves heading downtown to take in the sights, meet new people, and enjoy a good stroll. She rides well in the car and is always ready for the next outing. She plays well with other dogs and does well with children. This girl has had experience with cats and has easily befriended them. Callie is also making great progress with house training and continues to improve with consistency and routine. She has already mastered her crate training skills. With her friendly nature and love of adventure, Callie is ready to find a forever home where she can share her joyful spirit and loyal companionship every single day. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
