Tara is a 1 year 6-month-old medium sized mixed breed girl with a short black and white coat and a bright, loving personality that makes her easy to adore. Tara has a medium energy level and truly shines during playtime. She is excellent with other dogs and absolutely loves to play, making her a wonderful companion for a dog friendly home. Tara has done well with children, and her friendly nature makes her a joy to be around. She has not yet met a cat, so her relationship with cats is unknown at this time. Tara is amazing, soooo sweet, and just wants to curl up in your lap all the time. She is confident, social, and eager to experience all that life has to offer. Tara house, crate and leash training are in progress. Although many dogs become reliable with house training, accidents can still occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Tara would thrive in a home that offers patience, consistency, daily exercise, positive training, and plenty of love as she continues to learn and grow. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
