Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Lona, a very sweet and affectionate girl. Lona is great leash walker and loves to walk and play off leash with her sister, Flora. Since they have been together since they were tiny puppies, they would love to be adopted together. Lona is always up for a nice, long walk but looks forward to chill time and naps. She is friendly with other dogs and loves attention from people and is good with kids of all ages. She knows some basic obedience and would love to learn more. A 4-year-old shepherd mix, Lona is a little fluffy at 57 pounds. She is a really great girl and would love to have a new family. You can apply on line at .hsvawl by completing the Adoption Application on the home page.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
