Dog Breed: Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Mixed. Meet Eugene! Eugene is an approximately 9-month-old male Sheltie mix that weighs around 36 Lbs. He is a sweet boy with a happy, playful personality that's sure to steal your heart. He was found running loose on Horizon Road on 3/3/26 and, after never being reclaimed, is now ready to find a loving forever home. This sweet boy is very treat-motivated and eager to learn, which makes training fun and rewarding. Eugene already knows how to sit, walks nicely on a leash, and enjoys spending time with people. He's social, playful, and full of that wonderful puppy energy that makes every day more fun. Eugene's adoption fee is $125. He is neutered, microchipped, current on his rabies vaccine, boosters to date, and is heartworm negative. If you're looking for a friendly young dog who's ready for adventures, cuddles, and learning new things with his forever family, Eugene may be the perfect match for you. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
