Description
Dog Breed: Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier (long coat). Duke is a soft coated wheaten terrier puppy, born 10/10/25. He has puppy papers to be registered with APRI (America's Pet Registry Inc.) He was born in a commercial kennel, then consigned to a dog breeder auction as part of a complete kennel dispersal. He was being sold as a potential stud dog, but instead he was purchased into rescue so he can be a valued family member rather than spending his life in a breeder's pen. He is a VERY shy puppy and will need an experienced, patient adopter who can teach him that hands don't hurt and tummy rubs are nice. His basic disposition is sweet but he knows absolutely nothing about being a pet. He has been microchipped, vaccinated and wormed with Nexgard Plus for intestinal worms, flea & tick prevention and heartworm prevention. Because he is too young to neuter, he will be placed with a neuter contract. When proof of surgery is received, adopter will be mailed a rebate check for $50.00 His adoption fee is $350.00 If you would like to adopt Duke, email me at thistle88centurytel and request an application.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
