Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Johnny is a long-haired daschund / beagle mix who is 8 months old going on 8 years-- he loves nothing more than lounging in a sunny patch on the porch! He's 25 lbs, and with his adorably stumpy legs, he might fill out but he certainly won't get much taller. Johnny is a sweet, sensitve dog, who tends to bond with a single person. Once he does, he sticks to them like glue and they are his entire world: he's a true Velcro Dog. He does have environmental allergies, so his future adopter should be aware that he will need continued allergy medication. Johnny seems to be fully housetrained, loves to go for walks, and while he tolerates those who are not HIS human, he doesn't do all that well with other dogs or cats. If intro-ing to another dog, it should be done slowly. Johnny is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly flea/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $300. Apply to meet him at mpravl. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
