Name: Charlie Best Guess for Breed: Cattle dog mix Best Guess for Age: 6 months as of March 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 30 lbs as of 3/2/26; he is still growing! Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: North Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Charlie is Looking For: His forever home! Charlie and his brother Cooper have enjoyed growing up together but now they are ready to split up and get their own humans. Charlie is barely out of puppyhood and is eagerly looking forward to having his own family for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. And dog school so he can show how super smart he is. And then pets and cuddles and belly scritches at the end of a fun day together. And he'll want quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved. In exchange he promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's storing up, and loyal companionship for all his days. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
