Dog Breed: Unknown breed / mixed. Ruffy (TX) is a female Poodle mix who was estimated by our veterinary partner to be 8 years old at the time of intake in March 2026.. Ruffy is good with people and other dogs. This little nugget was abandoned by the people that were supposed to love her for life but we just sprung her from the sheltre and let her know the good news. Only good days going forward. She is a sweet girl looking for a forever home to live out the rest of her life. And we can tell you she has lots of life left!! Who would not want to just wrap their arms around this sad little girl and let her know she is safe. She be treated by our vet, some nice warm baths and we know her beauty will shine through. We can, however, provide transport support for pets at a considerable distance from the adopter. We adopt between Virginia and up to Maine!

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
