Dog Breed: Unknown breed. IN NEED OF LOCAL FOSTER OR ADOPTER / AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER TO ADOPT Meet Belle! More pictures and video below or to come! youtu.be/5Y2rBJLQf4Q Belle is 3 years old, female (approx. DOB tbd), 39 lbs., vetted, is or will be spayed and micro-chipped. Belle is a dog-friendly pocket-pitty, and her personality is as cute as she is! She is bubbly, happy, and playful! Butterbelle has been a great dog; she was used as a shelter helper dog and is a staple in playgroups with no behavioral concerns. She loves her toys and is a submissive player with others (as you can see in her video). Belle became at risk because of the length of stay. Originally, she came in as a cruelty case with several other dogs in NC. She was stable upon intake, but the others (mainly puppies) were emaciated and in medical need immediately, and were rescued. Even though Belle has been mistreated, you would never know by how happy she is! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
