Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Hello… my name is Sandy. I’m a two-year-old Shepherd mix weighing about 45 pounds, which makes me a pretty perfect medium size — not too big, not too small, just right for curling up next to my person. I recently arrived from the Pine Ridge Reservation, and if you’ve ever known what people lovingly call a “Rez Dog,”then you might already know… there’s just something special about us. It’s hard to explain, but there’s a kind of quiet magic in our hearts. We’re resilient, deeply loyal, and when we love you, we really love you. Before coming here, I had two beautiful puppies to care for. I did my job as a mama, and now that they’re all grown up and ready for their own adventures, it’s finally my turn to find a family of my very own. I’ll be honest — when we first meet, I might seem a little shy and unsure. The world is still a new place for me, and I’m learning that humans can be kind and safe. Because of that, I’ll need a patient family who understands that I may take a little time to feel comfortable. But here’s the secret: give me about 24 hours. Once I realize I’m safe, I’m all in. My heart opens wide, and I’ll love you with everything I’ve got. I’m still discovering simple joys. Toys are a bit confusing to me right now, and when someone offers me a treat, I sometimes look up like… “Wait… this is for me?” It’s the sweetest thing to watch me learn that life can be full of little gifts. Here are a few things my foster family already knows about me: I’m quiet and gentle I’m housebroken I’m sweet with other animals and children once I’ve had time to settle in I’m happiest in a calm, loving home where I can continue building my confidenceBecause I can be a little unsure at first, I’ll need a family that’s mindful about keeping me safe as I adjust to my new world. What I promise in return is simple: a heart that will absolutely burst with love for you. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a gentle soul and a little bit of that special Rez Dog magic… I might just be the one you’ve been waiting for. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption. The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Application prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at .RescueCrew. You can also access the necessary online adoption application here as well.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
