Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY. Sugar is an adorable 5 year old terrier mix. Approximately 20 lbs. She is very affectionate to her person. She has a lot of energy in her but then simply plops down to rest. She does have a prey drive so NO CATS for this girl. She can be dominant with other dogs therefore it would be best for her to be in a low traffic home with out other dogs or a very tolerant dog. Once she is comfortable with you she really is a love, she will need someone with patience and understanding and be able to provide her with the environment she needs to thrive. No kids due to mouthiness.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
