Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed. Hazel is a soulful American Staffordshire Terrier who believes that the best friendships are built one step at a time. At 2–3 years old and a manageable 42 lbs, she is the perfect companion for a walk through the neighborhood, at the beach, or in the park. She has perfected walking on a leash. Hazel is a bit shy and timid in new environments, but don't let that fool you—she has a heart of gold. She prefers to take things slowly, observing the world with her gentle eyes until she knows she’s safe. Once you earn her trust, a whole new side of Hazel emerges: one that is incredibly warm, loyal, and deeply loving. * Leash Manners: Excellent! She is a dream to walk. * Personality: Quiet, observant, and tender-hearted. * The "Inner Circle" Reward: There is nothing more rewarding than the first time Hazel leans into you for a scratch behind the ears. If you are interested in meeting Hazel please complete an Interest Form. An adoption counselor will contact you to schedule an appointment.

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
