Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Bella is a beautiful 3 year old red short hair female purebred Dachshund. She is the sweetest girl. Loves to cuddle and give kisses all day. Loves the foster's two dogs, and will do best with a fur sibling. Also needs a home with a yard. She will bark if she hears noises so an apartment or condo is not the best fit. Bella has spurts of energy here and there, but overall is a calm girl. She is crate trained, and will use pee pads if necessary. Her favorite thing is to steal socks, and doing zoomies. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
