Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $250.00. Lydia is delicate lady beagle, gentle and really beautiful. Her personality is very easy-going and she’s quiet, yet she does have some spunk -- especially in the cooler weather! She is friendly but submissive with other dogs and just fine with cats as well. Her life hasn’t been easy prior to coming to our rescue, she had a urinary tract infection and an ear infection that had been untreated for quite some time. She had not been doing well with housetraining and we moved her to a foster who has a fenced yard and a dog door and no more accidents. She does have access to the outside all the time though and is only crated for meals and treat time before bed. Lydia loves being out in the yard sniffing around, but she will come inside to nap on a dog bed or just to check in with her humans. We'd really like for her to have the same kind of freedom in her forever home. She enjoys a belly rub and a head scratch, but is also independent and relaxed. Lydia will fit perfectly with a family who wants a calm and peaceful dog as a companion. She is heartworm negative and is ready for a sleepover.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
