If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Rex is a 1.5 year old male Rottweiler who weighs in at 80 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $350. If you are still interested, please read more below. Rex is an 18-month-old pure-bred Rottweiler with a cropped tail. He had hip surgery when he was roughly 10 months old and has fully recovered. He is a playful and active “puppy”. He is good with other large dogs (not tested with other sizes but his foster believes he would become a fast friend). He is food motivated, but not food aggressive at all. He is crate trained and potty trained. He lets you know by either “pawing” you or “talking” to you. He loves people, is very good with kids, and wants to be around you. He loves to chew, so rugged stuffed animals/chew toys are a must. He knows basic commands but would benefit from obedience training. Rex is an energetic gentle soul – a total lover boy in dog form. Rex is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and neutered. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Overview:
The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
